At Franklin, athletics are an important part of building culture and providing opportunities for students to develop leadership, persistence, collaboration, and ethics, as well as the opportunity to experience success and failure. Students at multiple levels have the opportunity to discover their potential as athletes and members of a team. Our athletic teams compete at the state level as part of the Carolina Athletics Association for Schools of Choice: www.thecaasc.com.
We offer the following sports, dependent on student interest. Note that students must be in 6th grade and above for competitive sports.
- Flag Football (grades 6 – 8)
- Cross Country
- Ultimate Frisbee
Thunderbolt Athletics Guidelines
Character: Franklin students who participate in sports are students, first and foremost. In order to participate, student-athletes must be in good academic standing with regards to grades and the FSI Code of Conduct (in the FSI Student Handbook).
Academics: Student-athletes must maintain at least a 70 average in all classes, or obtain written consent from the teacher in any class where they drop below a 70 explaining their attempts to improve their grades and/or behavior before returning to play.
Fees: Each student-athlete must pay a $50 participation fee per season, plus a $20 transportation fee. This money will go toward equipment, uniforms, field/court rental, referees, and any other sport-specific needs. Only one $70 contribution is required per school year (regardless of how many sports are played).
