Lockie Hunter holds an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College in Boston and has taught creative writing at Warren Wilson College. She serves on the Executive Board of Girls Rock Asheville and MadHat Inc and as associate producer of the poetry radio program Wordplay on AshevilleFM 103.3. Her words have appeared in publications including Hiram Poetry Review, Brevity, Gulf Stream Literary Magazine, The Baltimore Review and Arts & Opinion. Lockie is co-curator of the Juniper Bends Reading Series, the West End Reading Series and Stories by the River which marry established and emerging voices on the stage and provide a platform for marginalized and younger voices to showcase budding work.
As grant writer for local nonprofits and schools, Lockie works with youth and teachers to seek intentionality and not perfection. She believes that if we can teach our youth to speak their truth then we have taught them to begin to be their authentic selves.
