Tom Kopp is a professor emeritus from Miami (Ohio) University, with a PhD in Motivational Design from Syracuse University. Forever an expeditionary educator, he was faculty adviser to New York State’s first Foxfire program in the 60’s, and now studies learning through the human propensity for collecting. He created the Constructive Curiosity Curriculum, including an early childhood program, “ICIC! (The Initiative to Cultivate Intellectual Curiosity).” He originated “Whispers In The Words,” a hands-on approach to history learning using authentic Civil War letters. He was a long-time teacher coach to Miami faculty and graduate teaching assistants,and has convened numerous learning communities and teacher workshops. The former Director of School Programs for the International Bluegrass Music Association, Dr. Kopp has developed and conducted a constellation of bluegrass-based learning activities, and has worked with bluegrass festivals in fifteen states to create EL experiences for educators. An Asheville resident, he resides with his wife, Marilyn, high atop Town Mountain amid flocks of wild turkeys and a bounty of black bears.
