Chris DeFiore began with Franklin in our first year, serving as the founding Coordinator of our afterschool program, then as an elective teacher of middle school computer skills and coding and our Outdoor Education elective, a course that brings the Outward Bound origin of EL Education into our curriculum. While gaining experience in the classroom, Chris continued his education in the sciences. In our third year, Chris transitioned into the classroom as high school Earth and Environmental Science teacher, continuing to offer Adventure Education as a popular elective.
A graduate of Warren Wilson College in Environmental Education,, Chris worked as an 8th Grade Associate Teacher at Evergreen Community Charter School and has served as an instructor for young adult service-learning organizations including Americorps National Civilian Community Corps(NCCC) and Bike & Build. During the summer, we happily share Chris with our kindred spirits at North Carolina Outward Bound where he serves as a mountains wilderness instructor.
Beyond school Chris spends his time playing Ultimate Frisbee, paddling, bouldering, jamming out on his guitar. Chris is looking forward to bringing his experiences and love for adventure into and beyond the classroom journey at FSI.
