Debbie Cummings is thrilled to bring her passion for arts integration and collaboration to the fine arts program at FSI. Debbie has instructed students of all grade levels during her 17 years as a teacher of art, theater, and gifted studies in public, private, and residential schools. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art education and theater and her Masters in Education in gifted studies from Mississippi University for Women. Additionally, Debbie obtained her school administration licensure through Freed-Hardeman University. Beyond her coursework, Debbie has received additional training through the Carnegie Institute for the Advancement of Teaching and the Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education.
In her teaching studio, Debbie uses her wisdom and expertise to provide dynamic visual arts instruction. She merges core studies with art concepts and cognitive strategies to develop students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. She enjoys helping students develop their artistic skills and encouraging them to explore their ideas. Debbie loves to create her own art, too. Her professional work spans a variety of mediums but is most often seen in watercolors, colored pencils, fabrics, and murals. Debbie enjoys reading, baking, and crafting when she’s not teaching students or working on her own next masterpiece. She’s also been known to be quite the event planner and hostess.
