Prior to joining The Franklin School of Innovation, Peter was the principal of Spencer Butte Middle School in Eugene Oregon and the President of the Eugene Administrators Association. He and his family moved to Asheville to be closer to their extended families in North Carolina, Maryland, New York, and Michigan.
He brings over 20 years of experience as a middle and high school principal in Oregon. He also served for 5 years as the Interagency Policy Research Director for the State of Oregon, where he oversaw program initiation and evaluation for Early Learning, K-12, Post-Secondary, and Youth Re-Engagement. Before becoming an administrator, Peter taught reading comprehension classes to all ages and Biology, AP Biology, and AP Computer Science to high school students. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in Education Leadership from the University of Oregon.
Peter believes that public education is our country’s most precious institution and that schools must provide equitable on-ramps and eliminate barriers to graduation and post-graduate success. His goal is to engage students and families by creating culturally sustaining systems that ensure everyone knows they belong.
