Sarah is the Title I teacher and Testing Coordinator. As a Title I teacher, she supports students to master the math skills they need to thrive in math class and on standardized tests. Sarah is a great supporter of charter schools and particularly appreciates the philosophies and culture driving FSI. She believes an ideal learning environment includes physical activity, time outdoors, honest communication, time to grapple, and lessons that promote connection making.
Sarah has a B.A. in fine art from SUNY Cortland in New York State, as well as, a core-area teaching credential from UNC Asheville. Sarah taught art at both the elementary and high school levels in New York and California. Before coming to FSI, Sarah worked as a freelance technology writer, writing articles and papers on topics such as drones, wireless monitoring, and environmental science.
When Sarah is not working she is busy raising her two children, 9 & 12. Hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and traveling are some of their favorite activities. Sarah is also passionate about writing and has authored three books. Sarah has lived in several cities between and including Berlin and Los Angeles, however, Asheville has been her home for the past 12 years and she loves living here in the mountains.
