Visual & Performing Arts

The arts are a vibrant part of student life at Franklin, from the first introduction in middle school through advanced, portfolio and performance-ready work in high school. Across visual art, theatre, and music, students have the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop real technical skill, and find a community of peers who share their passions.

In middle school, the arts are built into the student experience early. Visual Art and Theatre are offered as an enrichment in 5th and 6th grade and as an elective in 7th and 8th grade, giving every student a chance to explore, regardless of prior experience. Students interested in performing can also join Middle School Drama Club, open to all middle schoolers whether or not they are enrolled in a theatre class.

In high school, students can go as deep into the arts as they want. Visual Arts progresses from foundational courses in drawing, painting, and design through advanced, self-directed studio work and ceramics, with the opportunity to pursue AP Studio Art. Theatre builds confidence and stagecraft skills through acting, improvisation, and production work, culminating in a full theatre production each year, with opportunities to participate through Drama Club even outside of a theatre class. Music students can join Modern Orchestra or Choir, both performance-based programs open to grades 7-12, offering hands-on instruction across a range of instruments and vocal styles alongside regular concerts and performances.

Across every discipline and every grade level, Franklin's arts programs are led by dedicated faculty who meet students where they are and help them grow, whether that means a first experience with shading and form or years of dedicated craft heading into a college portfolio.
