Amy McMinn
Amy is an Asheville native who wandered the world before returning home to settle down roots in Western North Carolina. Joining FSI for the 2026–27 school year, Amy brings a decade of experience as an educator, having previously taught in Palestine, Guatemala, and New Jersey. She is thrilled to be back in Appalachia surrounded by friends and family.
As a student, studying abroad in Italy, Czechia, and Malta transformed her understanding of experiential education. She earned her BA in History and Political Science from Guilford College and her MA in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill. After graduate school, she interned for the American Federation of Teachers—an experience that inspired her to pursue a career in the classroom. A dedicated lifelong learner, Amy is currently working toward another MA in American History.
Amy is excited to serve FSI as the American History and Model UN teacher. She is especially eager to introduce AP U.S. History to FSI, leveraging four years of experience teaching the course and serving as an official AP Exam Reader. Beyond the classroom, Amy founded Model UN programs at two of her previous schools, guiding students through local, regional, and international conferences.
In her free time, Amy is almost always accompanied by her dog, Dolly—a "foster fail" from her time teaching in Guatemala during COVID. Having recently purchased her first home, she loves making the space her own, especially curating her back porch for reading, relaxing, and watching hummingbirds.
