High School Theatre Department
Theatre at Franklin gives students a place to build confidence, tell stories, and work as part of a creative team. Courses move from foundational skills in acting and stagecraft to more advanced, student-driven work, with opportunities to perform and to take on technical and production roles behind the scenes. Students design and build sets, manage lighting and sound, and create a full theatre production every year. Participation in the performing arts is open to all students, not only those enrolled in a theatre class.

Theatre 1, 2, and 3 (Grades 9-12, all taught during the same period) introduces students to the fundamentals of acting, stagecraft, and theatre history. Students engage in creative expression through performance, improvisation, and script work, with an emphasis on vocal and physical technique, character development, and collaboration. The course also covers elements of production, including set design, costume, and lighting.
Through individual and group projects, students build confidence, communication skills, and an appreciation for the performing arts. No prior experience is required.
