Dear Franklin families,
Each year, as we reach the mid-point of our school year, we pause to take a deep look at how we are doing and whether we are making progress towards our goals for the year. We look at all kinds of information – student survey input, academic performance, grades, high quality student work, attendance, and more. This year, we’re taking a special look at all this information with an eye on equity. What groups are we seeing and hearing more? Do all students feel a sense of belonging and connection? What are the important next steps we need to take so that every student is visible and valuable in our school? We often ask students to be “visible and valuable” but what are the steps we need to take to make this possible? It’s deeply important work. If you have feedback or stories from your experience or your child’s experience in our school that can help us with this work, I would love to hear them. Email me at email@example.com, and let’s find a time to check in.
Plan B and COVID Update
This past week, Governor Cooper, along with the State Health Director, Chair of the Board of Education, and the Superintendent of Education, recommended that schools move to in-person learning. While the recommendation is new, the guidelines for schools to re-open have not changed. In December, our Board approved moving to Plan B Hybrid Learning model when the 14 day rolling average positive test rate reaches 5% in Buncombe County. This rate continues to hover around 6% (5.9% as of today: https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/dashboard/testing). The Board meets this Tuesday and will review the metrics and this decision.
With the continued decline in COVID cases, we are preparing for the transition. We need updated information on how your student will attend school. Students may continue with fully remote learning, or opt in for hybrid (in-person and remote) learning. Learn more about our Plan B model here: Plan B Presentation, and complete the survey here: Plan B or Remote Learning Option. Thank you to everyone who has already completed the survey.
Check out our new “Notes from the Nurse” from our school nurse, Jess Peckham! She’s here to help keep us all healthy and safe.
Re-Enrollment for Next Year
We’re all looking forward to next year, and the hope and promise of a return to something more like “normal”. It’s time to let us know your plans for next year. We will send out re-enrollment forms this week. Students enrolled in Franklin are guaranteed a space – you just have to let us know you are coming back!
We know this can be confusing, so here’s a quick reminder:
Current FSI Students: Complete the re-enrollment forms. Watch for an email from Erinn Otten this week.
Siblings of current FSI Students: Complete a NEW enrollment application, and check the box to let us know it is a sibling application. Siblings get priority enrollment.
Friends of FSI Students: Share the word and encourage them to apply! We can’t give them preference for enrollment, but we know that half of our new applicants learn about us from FSI parents. You are the best!
I know this is a hard year. I am so grateful for all you do to make FSI a great school and community.
