Funding Our Future…..Together!
The Franklin School of Innovation is a tuition-free, public charter school. Public funds fuel our program and help us provide a great education for our students. But private support is crucial to help us provide the kind of program that sets us apart from other schools, such as:
- EL Education model that prepares students for college and lifelong learning
- Smaller size and dedicated faculty who get to know our students well
- Field work and service learning opportunities that engage students in doing work that matters
What the 2017-2018 Annual Fund Will Support
This is an exciting year for Franklin! We’ve added 5th grade, and in June we will graduate our first class of seniors. As we celebrate these milestones, our Annual Fund will help support things like:
- Paving our Road: $42,000 to get rid of some of our gravel!
- Buses: $15,000 to keep our buses safe and running
- Band Program: $14,000 to bring band programming to our students
- Adventure Education: Scholarships ensure that all students can take part in trips like Tremont, Adventure Treks, and whitewater rafting
Buildings & Buses – No Public Funding
As a public charter school, Franklin receives approximately $6,900 per student. These funds help cover teacher and administrator salaries, instructional supplies, and basic operational expenses. But charter schools do not receive public funding for capital expenses, funds that pay for things like buildings and buses.
Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools buildings and facilities are funded through local bonds, but charter schools cannot access those funds. So the costs of our facilities must come out of our instructional funds.
Charter schools also do not receive a share of state education lottery funds, which district schools use for technology and 1:1 computer programs. We’re proud of our ability to provide an excellent education at a lower cost, but we need your support to create the school we all want for our children.
