Kara grew up in Peoria, IL and graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelors in Psychology. Starting her career as a social worker, she brought that experience into her role as a Truancy and Family Intervention worker for a school in Peoria that taught children who had severe behavioral and emotional challenges. She worked in that role for almost a decade before moving to Asheville. Drawn to the mountains and endless trails, Kara and her 3 children moved to Asheville 7 years ago and she continued working with children with special needs and behavioral challenges. She brings a great deal of empathy, kindness and understanding in her role as Behavior Assistant and is thrilled to be working at FSI!
