The Franklin School of Innovation started with two questions: With rapid change taking place in nearly every part of our society, why haven’t we changed how we do school? What skills and knowledge will today’s students need when they graduate from high school and college? Our story begins there…
No matter what path students today choose, when they complete their education they will enter a world where rapid change is the norm. While the facts and knowledge that can be measured by standardized tests will still be important, there are other skills students will need to succeed. The ability to solve problems, think creatively, work collaboratively, and adapt quickly will be essential.
A group of parents and teachers in our community began to explore how we could do school differently to connect and engage students, and inspire them to become lifelong learners. Through this exploration, we found schools across the country and world where students were becoming problem-solvers and collaborators, places where learning was challenging and meaningful. We began working to create a similar school in our community, joining with a national network of EL Education schools that share a common vision. The Franklin School of Innovation opened in 2014 and has grown to now serve over 750 students in middle and high school. We invite you to join us as we work toward our vision of a new way to do school.
We don’t claim to be a perfect school, but we hope you’ll help us build a perfect school…together.
