Sandi Wilson is an internationally recognized and four-time Music Educator Grammy Award© nominee (Current Legacy Applicant for 2025 Music Educator Grammy Award), TedX speaker, and musician. For more than a decade, this award winning music educator, musician, and clinician has excelled in the field of strings, vocal, and mindfulness music education.
Originally from North Carolina, Wilson began studying music at the age of four and continued with her studies to receive her Bachelor’s in Music from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She has since continued her studies in Colorado through the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and plans to continue to further her education with ambitions for a Doctoral Degree.
Since Wilson began her teaching career sixteen years ago. During that time, she has built six different music programs from the ground up in various private, public, and charter schools in North Carolina and Colorado, including her newest program creating a thriving modern orchestra program based in Asheville at the Franklin School of Innovation which introduces an entirely new approach or ensemble work. Mrs. Wilson has, and continues, to teach everything from K-12 general music, to collegiate level A Cappella groups and semi professional chamber strings groups, to mindfulness practices for musicians. She has founded and directed her own youth orchestras and A Cappella groups throughout North Carolina, which have all performed at professional sporting events such as NBA games, NHL games, and multiple performances at D1 colleges in North Carolina and Colorado.
She, as a violinist and vocalist, has performed countless solo performances, weddings, and corporate events. As well as leadibg master classes, directing youth ensembles, and has been a guest clinician for multiple youth choirs and orchestras in NC and Colorado, as well as doing studio recording work. During her time recording as a studio musician and a contracted artist, she has had the privilege of working with various local and mainstream recording artists. She has also performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Pikes Peaks Philharmonic.
Mrs. Wilson’s background expands beyond orchestral and vocal music, but also to theatre and multicultural music and dance.
As an actress and musical director, she has performed/directed 30+shows including collaborating as musical director with playwright Jeff Donnelly on three original musicals they debuted together in North Carolina.
Her multicultural music studies took her to study various styles of Latin, African, and Indian dance. She has choreographed multiple dances and taught and performed them alongside multi-lingual music performances with K-12 students for local, state, and international heritage festivals.
As a coach and athlete, she is a former competition swimmer and cheerleader who has coached at the varsity and collegiate level as well as with elite private teams and organizations. She has coached award winning teams who have been top placers in various state and national level competitions.
Wilson has received multiple awards and accolades over her career. She is a four-time Music Educator Grammy Award© nominee (Current Legacy Applicant for 2025 Music Educator Grammy Award). She has given a TedX talk challenging educators to think about how they engage with students, and offers insight into how to successfully engage with students who have completely disengaged.
She was named one of 2020’s “Top 100 Visionaries in Education” from the Global Forum for Education and Learning. She has been featured in VOYAGEDenver Magazine as one of 2020’s local female role models and trailblazers in “The Trailblazers: Rewriting the Narrative, Life and Work with Sandi Wilson”and again the following year in 2021’s “Shout Out Colorado”, 2022 with their “Bold Journeys” series and in 2023 with their “Canvas Rebel” series.
When she isn’t teaching, performing, coaching, or directing, she spends her time running her late mother’s business, Buzzy Blossoms Garden, and spending quality time with her loving husband, Kyle, and their two pups, Scout and Piper. They spend most of their time together hiking, skiing, enjoying live music, and doing anything outdoors.
