Matthew Leggat comes to The Franklin School of Innovation with over 20 years of experience in the classroom. He’s worked with multiple age ranges from students in the middle school grades through adults taking part in continuing educational experiences at the community college level. His primary objectives as an educator are to meet students at their individual and collective intellectual levels while creating an environment where all students are able to safely take academic risks and gain confidence. With a Bachelors of Science Degree in Middle School Education, a Masters Degree in Reading Education, and National Board Certification in Middle Grades Social Studies, he has curated a deep understanding of not just the cognitive development of students but also the social/emotional needs that are vitally important in adolescence.
Matthew spends his free time with family and friends hiking, kayaking, playing music, and exploring photography. His greatest accomplishment is raising both two-legged and four-legged kids with his partner Sarah. After growing up in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, he has spent the last twenty-plus years in Asheville, North Carolina, exploring the mountains and serving the community in many different ways.
