Good morning Franklin families,
Thank you! Last week was jam-packed with activities and with so much love! What an amazing treat to come in from the Wednesday middle school intensives to this lovely lunch. I especially appreciated the carefully labeled individual boxes with lunches for all our staff members who have food allergies – so much care and attention! We appreciate our FSI families and the Parent Crew for organizing a full week of appreciation.
We ended the week with the Spring Arts Showcase. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate the arts at Franklin! It was an overflow crowd and a wonderful night of music and art. Special thanks to our arts faculty members Jennifer Lipsey-Edwards, Kati Robbins, Julia Wharton, Beth Lexa, and Sandi Wilson for all they do to support our student artists, musicians, and thespians. Thanks to all who helped stay after to help us get the room set up for use this week!
Thanks also to high school teacher Matt Reynolds for the inspiration behind our 1st ever “Anything that Rolls” Parade and to Athletic Director Kim Burke for her undying enthusiasm for athletics at FSI. We had a great parade and a fun pep rally on Friday – squeezing a lot of joy and celebration into one week.
There are 3 ½ weeks remaining in this school year. While each week will contain some fun, we also need to stay focused on learning! Families, we can use your help to end the year strong. Please be sure students are attending school every day unless they are sick. Check in with your student to be sure they are turning in school work and studying up for end of year tests, quizzes, and final projects. Please also remind students that school and their learning and growth are important. Your support for their education matters!
This week -be sure to check out this amazing family day -Karaoke & Paint Community building event! Taking place this coming Saturday, May 18, 2 pm and free for FSI families! Finally, we are asking for your input on two different surveys. As we look ahead to our next decade as a school we want to hear your priorities for further development, and we also want to know how you want to help support our growth. Please take a few minutes to complete these important surveys! Your information will help our Board of Directors create a vision for our next 10 years of growth.
Thank you for choosing Franklin, choosing EL Education, and working with us to empower students to make the world a better place!

Dual Enrollment College Credit Courses through AB Tech
Did you know that FSI students can take college courses for free? Many of our students participate in the Dual Enrollment program and earn college and high school credit. Here is a little information – more information is available from our College and Career Counselor, JaneAnne Tager (jtager@thefsi.us).
- Courses completed in the College Transfer Pathways are weighted the same as AP courses in high school and some Career Tech Pathway courses are also able to transfer to a university and offer AP weight.
- If you would like to review the possible pathways, here is a link:https://abtech.edu/programs/high-school/career-and-college-promise-high-school-programs .
- Most pathways require students to have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.8 after sophomore year.
- Most courses are offered online and students have the option to select a study hall at Franklin to build in time for their coursework.

NAMI Mental Health Education Series
NAMI is hosting a series of free education events. The first one is happening on Thursday April 25th from 5-7pm at AmeriHealth Caritas (216 Asheland Avenue in Asheville). This one is specifically for parents (and caregivers) of teens/young adults who have recently been diagnosed with a mental health condition or who appear to be headed down that path.
Parent Leadership Opportunities
The Board of Directors is seeking prospective Board members and Committee members. The Board has some specific needs, including an attorney and people with fundraising experience. The Board is also seeking people who represent our community. Parents are welcome but it is not a requirement! What does a Board member do? Board members should be prepared to contribute time and other resources (such as your expertise) to support the School, attend monthly Board meetings and actively participate on a Board committee. Looking to learn more about what the Board does, but not ready to commit fully? You can join a Board committee without joining the Board. Email Al Glicksberg (aglicksberg@thefsi.us) or Michelle Vruwink (mvruwink@thefsi.us) to connect with a Board member and learn more.
