Good morning Franklin families,
It was so good to have students back in school! Thank you all for your patience and your support as we worked with our local Emergency Operations Center to re-open schools. We’ve all learned just how important water is to our daily lives! It has taken a truly impressive, collaborative, and massive effort to restore running water. We are thankful for their efforts!
We also have an abundance of drinking water. While it isn’t flowing through our pipes, we have cases of bottled water and a really cool water filtration system, donated to us by Water Mission, that creates over 700 gallons of clean, clear, potable water. Water is abundant! The water filter system not only provides us with lots of good water, it’s a terrific learning opportunity. The water system is maintained and tested every single day, with water samples sent off to the County for analysis. Every Friday we drain the system so that it fills with fresh water for the new week. This abundance of water gives us an opportunity to share! Shout out to our 5th grade student scientists who filled water containers and handed out over 100 gallons of water on Friday. We’ll be in the car line again this Friday! You can bring a container to fill or we have some to give away.
This week we return to a “normal” schedule, with the return of Beyond the Bell after school care, clubs, and athletics. One of the first things you learn about responding to trauma and natural disasters is that a return to routines and structure helps with recovery and healing. Our goal is to provide as much of a normal school experience as we can, while recognizing that some students and staff will need extra support as we move ahead. It’s really just the most basic and important concept of Crew – we are stronger together.
Remember the time change! The clock “falls back” – so we all gain an hour on Sunday. While I personally will miss the evening light it will make the return to a regular schedule a little easier for everyone this week! Also remember that we do have school on Tuesday, Nov 5 and our normal early release on Wednesday.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to volunteer, donate items, feed our staff, and help with our return. Thank you for not only choosing Franklin – but for joining us in community. We appreciate your support!

Reminder: Quarter One Assignments & Grades
Given the disruption to our first quarter, we are not issuing Quarter 1 Report Cards. Teachers have updated student grades based on work completed through September 25. Parents and students should review these grades together. These grades will be included in a Semester 1 final grade. If students are unhappy with their current grades – they have from now till the winter break to improve their grades. If students are satisfied with their grades at this point in time they can continue doing good work to maintain them.
Middle school grades: Mr. Freeman sent an email last week about middle school grades. Grades are in Canvas and students were instructed to send a snapshot of their grades to their parents. If you did not receive an email with your student’s current grades please reach out to your student’s Crew leader.
High school grades: High school teachers have updated grades using Infinite Campus. Please refer to your Infinite Campus parent portal to see grades. If you have questions about your student’s grades please reach out to the individual teacher or to your student’s Crew leader.
We will send Semester 1 report cards and all grades will be updated in Infinite Campus at that time. Report cards will be sent after we return from winter break. Friday, Dec 20 is the last day of Semester 1.
After School Clubs
We have updated our Club listing, which is also posted on our website. Many clubs are starting or resuming this week! You can check the listing and see which clubs are starting back up here: 2024 FSI Clubs. Please remember that students need to sign in to Beyond the Bell for after school clubs.
Apply for Free/Reduced Lunch
We strongly encourage families to apply for free and reduced lunch. If your family is experiencing a loss of income due to the hurricane, you may qualify for free or reduced meals based on your current income. It is important to our school to collect this information for two reasons. First – it helps us support our families! We will use the free and reduced meal application for all school-based financial aid and scholarships, including meals as well as scholarships for field trips, Beyond the Bell services, and clubs.
Having accurate information about the number of families who qualify for free or reduced lunch also supports the school. Some sources of funding are based on this number.
You can apply for the free and reduced meal program at www.myschoolbucks.com or under the quick links through your My School Bucks app. If you have any issues, contact Tammey Harper at tharper@thefsi.us.
MANNA Packs for Kids
MANNA Packs for Kids is a take-home food program that provides a weekly bag of food to students. Bags will contain items such as proteins, fruits, vegetables, snacks and/or breakfast items. The “MANNA Packs for Kids” program’s mission is to serve those families with children who are experiencing economic difficulty and could use assistance in providing food when school meals are not an option. To join the program, please fill out the Manna Packs google form here.
Thank You to Our Sponsors!
Our community sponsors provide important financial resources to help us fill the gap between the cost of our programs and the public funding we receive. If you own or run a business and are interested in becoming a Corporate Sponsor, please contact Micah Usher, musher@thefsi.us.
Thank you to ARCA Design for their support of our school!
