DV Awareness Workshop:
SAFE Program presented by Our VOICE & Verbal Purple April 24th

With each new school year, we bring better education and programs to your children and community. Today we are happy to inform you of an important and exciting partnership we now have with Our VOICE.
Our VOICE Inc. is a non-profit crisis intervention and prevention agency that has been serving survivors of sexual violence, ages 13 through adult, in Buncombe County for over 45 years. Our VOICE also works to provide primary prevention education to stop sexual violence before it occurs.
In collaboration with Verbal Purple and Our VOICE, we will be facilitating SAFE, an Anti-Human Trafficking Prevention Education Workshop, informed by existing scientific evidence, that teaches on sex trafficking risk factors, recruitment dynamics, warning signs, healthy and abusive relationships, and strategies for seeking and providing help for youth.
The SAFE Anti-Human Trafficking Prevention Education Workshop includes sensitive content related to human trafficking and we understand this material may be distressing for some individuals. We also understand these conversations can bring up a wide variety of feelings and reactions, so reach out to Our VOICE if you need support or have concerns about the content.

We are excited to offer this essential programming to you and your youth and to work as a community toward a safer Asheville for all.
This workshop is intended for anyone in 6th grade through 12th grade and their parents. It is also available to the wider community, if you have friends that would like to join.

FSI Pickleball Tournament AND Spring Fair, April 26th

Get ready to serve, volley and smash your way to victory in our FIRST annual pickleball tournament Saturday, April 26th from 11am ~ 1pm! There will be middle school, high school, adult and staff divisions, and we’ll try to match teams up by skill level, so everyone can play! Teams are made up of two people and registration is $20/team – so get out of the “kitchen”, grab your partner and register your team!

Student Division – MS Division (5th-8th grades) and HS Division (9th-12th grades)
Adult Division – 18 and Up
Staff Division – For FSI Staff
Registrations need to be submitted by Friday, April 25th so that we can construct the brackets for each division. There will be no on-site team registrations.

The only surefire way to “bagel” at this tournament is to not register ahead of time.

The Parent Crew is also organizing a spring fair the same date as the pickleball tournament to help raise funds for staff appreciation. There will be a fair with craft and market vendors made up of FSI students, parents and staff in the community room and courtyard, along with activities like face painting, temporary tattoos, carnival style games to play, basket raffles, live music by Dinah’s Daydream, a gypsy jazz band put together by one of our FSI families (11AM – noon) + Funkgettaboutit, a funk and groove trio organized by our school’s technology director (Noon – 1PM)!
This event is for the entire FSI community, to help support their community. Come, check out the crafts and some FSI family-owned businesses, have fun with the games and activities, or watch some pickleball!

Night of the Arts

Thursday, May 1st for 5-7pm in the FSI Community Room, join us for an evening of the arts! The middle and high school will be having an art exhibition along with fine art awards. There will also be excerpts from the recent productions from our theatre department including the ‘The Prom’, our high school Theatre Departments recent musical, and scenes from ‘This is A Test’, our middle school’s recent production. Then, enjoy the spring concert!

Community Fundraiser: Stronger Together: Stories of Our Community

Help us reach a wider community and raise the needed funds for Helene recovery and to bridge the gap in funding between public and charter schools.

You can help by donating to and sharing our “Stronger Together” fundraising page and the stories from our Facebook throughout the day at 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.

Encourage your friends and family to join us on Facebook on Giving Tuesday, Dec 3 to learn more about our school’s experience during the hurricane and how we responded, individually and collectively. We will go live at 8am, 10am, Noon, 2pm and 4pm followed by videos with members of our community telling their stories! If you don’t have Facebook, the pre-recorded videos will also be available on our YouTube channel

Our Annual Fund traditionally helps us meet the gaps for special programs like transportation, field trips, after school programs, our school nutrition program, arts and athletics.

This year’s Hurricane Recovery Fund will help cover costs for our nutrition program and field trips but will also provide funds to meet the daily needs of families and staff members who experienced significant loss in the hurricane – things like gift cards to cover gas or food, or to purchase new clothing and household items.

Please share the videos to your wider community – and consider adding to this fund if you are in a comfortable place to do so. If your family is not in a position to give this year – it’s ok! Take care of your family first.
