Teshale Byan was born and raised in Ethiopia. He studied Civil Engineering for four years at Addis Ababa University and moved to Asheville NC, where he graduated with B.A in Mathematics & Computer Science from Warren Wilson College. Teshale has been teaching mathematics, computer programming, science, and physical education courses at Odyssey Community School for the last 6 years. His lessons are designed to incorporate real world applications and enhanced by the use of technology.
Teshale has been writing his own mathematics textbooks complemented with interactive computer programs, for which he wrote and used his own tech code. His teaching experiences have made him determined to eliminate the common claim, made universally by people who struggle with math, that “I just don’t have a math brain.”
Teshale believes that, with the right approach, pace, optimal challenges, perseverance, and grit, all students can learn how to apply math and to appreciate its beauty. Teshale’s creativity, his passion for math, and his compassion for all his students make him an ideal crew member for the FSI Math Faculty.
